Reflective Cover Page

Before starting the class I was unsure what the expectations were. I was not sure what the requirements would be and I was concerned because I do not have a computer at home. I knew previous to starting the class that we would have to write blog posts but I did not know much else about what we would be doing. I knew enough about computer hardware/software, the internet, and power point but I was still unsure what the class would cover in terms of technology and programs.
I did not know how to write a blog or where to go to open a blogging account previous to this class. I was not aware that it would be so easy to set up and start using. The blogs helped me asses how dependant I am on digital technology among other things. I had never asked myself how technology helped me on a day to day basis.
Our portfolio assignments were helpful in determining what online identity is and how dependant we are on technology at this time in history. I was already aware at a younger age that everything I put up on MySpace or Facebook was representative of how I wanted people to perceive me. The “Unplugged” assignment helped me asses just how dependant I am on video games, but also how less dependent I am on computers and cell phones.
As for presentations, I was unaware that there was any other option to present besides PowerPoint. Prezi opened my eyes to a non- linear way of presenting. Encompassing ideas within ideas is a more natural and efficient way to present and get your point across. But among the most interesting and fun things I learned was putting together a digital story. Besides creating a digital story for class I was also able to compile pictures, videos, and music for subjects outside of class. The experience has inspired me to start a small scale film channel on YouTube in the near future and a mobile website business.
I was however disappointed that we could not use Zotero more in class and that we did not have the time to learn how to use it proficiently in class for other classes. If I had known of this program previous to taking this class it would have saved me time on term papers and their work cited.
The course was incredibly helpful in providing tools, websites, and programs that can work to my advantage. They are not only advantageous to school because they can also be used for recreational purposes. Having taken the class I can say that I have learned how to blog, write for a digital audience, put together a digital story, edit html, and not take technology for granted.
